Keilder Water and Forest Park

Kielder Water & Forest Park brings you nature on a grander scale. The views are bigger, the night sky brighter, the sports wilder and the smiles wider. Home to the biggest man-made lake in Northern Europe and, at over 250 square miles being able to provide 7 gallons of fresh water for every human on earth, as well as the largest working forest in England. The best way to explore Kielder is to start at one of the three visitor centres, Tower Knowe, Leaplish or Kielder Castle

Kielder is an astronomer's dream come true. Visit the newly built Sky Den featuring a triangular pod with a spectacular opening roof, revealing the darkest night skies in the whole of Europe thanks to minimal light, dust and air pollution. Or, view deep sky objects on winter nights,  where the Milky Way's spiral arms are visible from the naked eye. Make a wish as comets pass, and see the Sun's surface using Kielder Obervatory's incredible telescope.

For other activities you really are spoilt for choice. Whether you want to relax or you are seeking adrenalin thrills and adventure in the great outdoors, Kielder Water & Forest Park has it all from hiking and finding wild life and nature, horseback riding, taking the 60 seat motor cruiser 'The Osprey' ferry to see Kielder Water in comfort as well as providing an opportunity to learn more about the history of the reservoir and the area, cycling, mountain biking, water activities such as canoeing, sailing, and water skiing and fishing.
