Mellerstain House

Located 33 miles from Cleugh Manor, this beautiful 18th century house was created by the famous Scottish architect and designer Robert Adam, known for his "movement" style, drawing on the picturesque. Indeed, Mellerstain House's intricate and delicate details reflect the architect's asthetique. Just as beautiful are the gardens, where you can also find a children's play area, picnics, wildlife, animals, etc. This was also the home of the fameously brave Lady Grizel Baillie, who snuck around the jail where her father was being kept, passing messages and food, when she was only 12 years old.
