Located just 15 minutes drive from the Manor, Otterburn is a  small village with a big history. On the outskirts of the village you will find the site of the famous Battle of Otterburn in 1388 when the English army suffered a bloody defeat by the Scots led by the Earl of Douglas. You can still go hunting today with a metal detector and discover a invaluable archaeological piece yourself. One of the Otterburn attractions is the Otterburn Mill which contains a museum outlining the history of weaving and wool milling in the area. The Otterburn Rug has been endorsed by the Royal Family, and the late Queen of England and Wales was once kept warm in her pram by one. Otterburn Mill also includes a cafe, an outdoor clothing store and a Tourist Information Centre. Otterburn also offers a selection of local shops and restaurants. Other activities you can find at Otterburn include Horseback riding and clay pidgeon shooting.
